LYONS, Colo. — Authorities have ordered all residents of the town of Lyons to leave Friday morning and the Colorado National Guard has been called into to help.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said officials planed to evacuate the town of about 2,000 around daybreak.
Lyons has been cut off by what some city officials have called a 500-year flood.Thursday night National Guard vehicles in high-water vehicles reached Lyons with humanitarian aid.
Water has been flowing over the tops of five dams around the town, Boulder County spokeswoman Gabi Boerkircher said.
The dams had not broken, but emergency officials were monitoring them very closely, she said
